The CO ID Project can help with getting identification documents, especially if you're having difficulty doing this on your own. You may apply by phone at 303-837-1313 or online at and they will follow up. They have also made paper intake packets available in the public reception area at their Denver office at the address below. You can pick up a packet and mail it back or drop it in the drop box in the lobby. You may also schedule an appointment to complete an application for services in-person. Please call 303-837-1313 to schedule an appointment. Colorado Legal Services has some limited in-person availability on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9:00-11:00 at their Denver office. The office is on the 4th floor. Appointments are encouraged, but some walk-ins may be accepted. Vouchers may also be obtained in-person during these hours.

Can help you get your birth certificate


A DD-214, or Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, can be of help when you’re applying for another identification card. For example, a DD-214 is one of the secondary documents accepted by the Vital Records Office for applying for a birth certificate. The National Archives website is the place to order a copy of a DD-214. You can do this online or by mail. Click on Request Military Service Records, then start the form online. In most cases, this copy is free. You may also be able to get help ordering a copy of your DD-214 through some of the Veteran agencies.

Mobile ID unit


DMV2GO is a mobile ID unit developed by the Division of Motor Vehicles. The unit visits all parts of Colorado to help people get an ID, including jails, prison, shelters, and other locations. In Denver, they currently visit Saint Francis Center in the United Way building on the second Tuesday of every month, Urban Peak on the second Monday of every month, and the Denver Rescue Mission men's shelter on east 48th Avenue the third Thursday of each month.
