Project Avary is a nonprofit that provides support for kids with an incarcerated parent. The program, which has a six-week commitment, is open to kids ages 8 to 18, and it's free. Small groups meet up together online, along with counselors who all have lived experience with parental incarceration. The meetings are a unique opportunity of connecting with other kids with the same experience of having a parent currently or formerly in prison. Groups are one hour long and held after school hours. At Tennyson Center for Children, they aim to build stronger and healthier kids and families. Many students arrive at their K-12, school-based, day-treatment program having experienced complex trauma. By integrating social, emotional, behavioral, and academic learning into the program, students see tremendous growth. During the 2020/2021 year, they saw a 67% increase in reading proficiency and a 79% increase in math proficiency which are enormous achievements for students who typically arrive at Tennyson two to three years behind in school. Outside of their Day Treatment Program, they also offer a multitude of child and family therapy services that provide support across Colorado – and beyond. The wide array of Community Programs supports children, teens, adults, parents, families, foster families, and parents-to-be. They hold themselves to a high standard of care across all their programs and services to ensure children and families receive the level of care they deserve.
