Handling Stress

Stress is how your body responds to a physical or emotional demand. The dictionary defines it as “a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances.” What can be more demanding than getting out of jail or prison?

Stress can really get to you sometimes. Sometimes stress can be so bad that people want to go back to prison or jail.

Remerg.com information can help you reduce stress. For example:

  • The Health section helps you find resources if you have physical or mental health problems, need substance abuse treatment, or advice on how to take better care of yourself.
  • The Employment section can help you find a job, another major source of stress.
  • The Benefits section will help you get started on finding help with basic needs.
  • The Family and Friends section can help you with relationships and taking care of parenting responsibilities.
  • The Life Skills section teaches you time management, anger management, problem solving, and other skills that all help reduce stress.

Another way to reduce stress is to be proactive, which means taking control. It’s the opposite of being reactive, which is reacting to something done to you.

Be Proactive
Here’s an example of being proactive. You get up and make a list of what you’re going to get done that day. Then put the list in order so you do the most important things first. Then work your way through the list.

Other examples of being proactive include calling up an employment organization and make an appointment for an orientation, or taking a class at the library to improve your computer skills.

Even taking a walk in a park is proactive, like the guy does below after a day of job hunting and visiting his PO.
