What you eat has a big impact on how you feel. The same goes for how you take care of your body. Coming out of incarceration is a good time to start new eating and exercise habits. You can eat healthy and spend less money. Fast food is not cheaper than healthy food, as seen in the example here.

Finally, go easy on the energy drinks. Red Bull and Rock Star don’t give your body the nutrition it needs.
Physical activity is a good way to deal with stress and find peace of mind. Lift weights, do cardio, go for a walk. Taking a walk is one of the easiest ways to get exercise and a great way to clear your head. You can also do pushups, lunges, crunches, jumping jacks, and jump rope anywhere.
Adults should get around two and a half hours of aerobic exercise (like brisk walking) each week, or over an hour of rigorous exercise (like running) each week, and do muscle-strengthening activities (like pushups and lunges) at least twice a week. You don’t have to do it all at once. You can get exercise by just doing 10 minutes at a time.
Set goals for yourself, such as “I’ll do 10 pushups today, 15 pushups tomorrow” or “I’ll walk 10 blocks today, 20 blocks tomorrow.” Find a workout friend. You might be more likely to exercise if you have someone else to do it with.
Community Recreation Centers
Rec centers are a good value. A one-day pass costs around $5, and they offer work out rooms with weights, pools, showers, and fitness classes. Ask about discounted entrance fees, financial assistance, and if you can afford it, membership costs. You’ll need to show proof of your address and a photo ID. Almost every town in Colorado has a rec center. Google the name of your town + recreation center.
Phoenix Multisport supports people who are recovering from a substance use disorder through a new identity in sports. They organize climbing, hiking, running, strength training, yoga, mountain and road biking, and other social activities. Events are held in Denver, Boulder, and Colorado Springs.
